Want a $1000 goodie bag for Mothers Day?

Well, apparently it is just after Mothers Day but close enough!

The people who bring you Real Mums are running Mums Night Out in Melbourne on Friday 16 May, along with the Real Mums Awards. Everyone who goes to Mums Night Out gets a goodie bag to take home – and each one has stuff valued at over $1,000 in it!

Hope you get to go along and have a great night of eating, drinking, laughing and talking! And maybe some dancing, who knows?! And then enjoy the weekend exploring your goodie bag!

Making Mum special

As we approach May, we are also getting close to Mothers Day

Have you started thinking about how to make your Mum feel special this year? Or maybe even about how you will treat yourself if you are a mother?

The Save Time Online Mothers Day feature includes a numnber of gift ideas (and links ot make them easy to find) but we think the other resources are more important. For instance, the page is covered in quotes about mothers as a reminder for us all that mother and mothering are very important parts of our lives and our world.

We also have a number of articles and links to external resources – articles with recipes for a mothers day breakfast, gift ideas to avoid on Mothers Day and ideas on how you can save money on gifts. There is even an article on incorporating Mothers Day into your business (and please contact us if you want to be included on our Mothers Day page!)

But what it really comes down to is having one day in the year where you concentrate on doing things for the person who has done many things for you throughout your life. We wish you and your Mum a very happy Mothers Day together.

World Maths Day – celebrate online!

Today is world maths day!

It is celebrated on the first Wednesday every March as a means of celebrating education and helping people develop their numeracy skills. A full explanation of the day is available at Wikipedia.

More than a million students have registered online to be part of the celebrations at mathletics. During the day, students can log in and be paired with a student somewhere in the world for fun competitions in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

So why not celebrate maths day today, too? It’s doesn’t just have to be for the kids – play a game of sokudo or monopoly, relearn a times table, improve your skills online, do some mental arithmetic (maybe total the shopping before you reach the registers), play games online or think about maths in our daily lives.

And if your child needs a little help with their maths, today is a great day to check out options such as Maths Power.

We’re sorry

As part of modern Australia, we are horrified at the existance of the stolen generation – especially that the practice lasted so long and as recently as the 1970s.

As part of Australia, we support Kevin Rudd’s comments this morning and aplogise that average Australians allowed the Government to behave in such a way.

We are sorry that those children were removed from their families, and sorry for those families left to live without knowing about their children’s whereabouts or well being. As mothers, we can’t imagine how hard that separation would have been.

Hopefully, the apology starts the healing process for us all and actions will follow on from today.

We will be searching the net for information and sites about the apology and reconciliation as our small effort towards a united Australia. For now, we are proud to share this link which replays the entire apology speech made by Kevin Rudd this morning.

And we would love to hear how the apology has affected you, and whether you stopped this morning to watch/listen.

Valentines Day is almost here…

Valentines iconChristmas and Australia Day are now behind us and we’re rapidly heading into the last month of summer.

In two weeks, it will be Valentines Day. We have a collection of ideas, articles and quotes on our Valentines Day page, but we also thought we’d remind you now so there is time to grab a gift if you’re so inclined.

And we’d love to hear – what does Valentines Day mean in your life? (and ‘nothing’ is an acceptable answer!)

Christmas goodies – get them now!

Christmas is over and the post-Christmas sales have begun. Now is the time to stock up on your wrapping paper, Christmas cards, decorations, and all things Christmassy while they are on special. Often these items are less than half price, so it is worth shopping around and stocking up – and it will save you racing to the shops next December to buy them!

Some online stores also offer discounts on Christmas items so don’t forget to look online, too!

Christmas will soon be here!

The first day of summer, the end of year is looming, the kids are tired yet excited, BBQs and parties are warming up, the shops are crazy – all the signs that Christmas is almost here again.

How close are you to be ready for Christmas? The ideal is to be ready by the end of November (except for food things) unless you like the hustle and bustle of shops in December – but how many of us meet that ideal every year?

Here are some tips and links to help you finish preparing in the next 24 days!

  • shop online as much as possible – no parking, no crowds, choose your own hours, everything is delivered
  • plan what you need as much as possible before starting to shop
  • buy as many things as possible in one shop to save travelling from one place to another (And this will save delivery fees when you shop online)
  • order as much in advance as possible – book a turkey, pre-order some flowers, request a personalised Santa letter,
  • next time the kids want to do something crafty, give them big sheets of paper to make wrapping paper or some cardboard to make cards out of – keeps them amused and saves you buying Christmas goodies
  • entertain the kids with Christmas themed games and activities
  • get gift wrapping done in store wherever possible -0 this is a great time saver and also makes it harder for anyone to ‘accidently’ see what is in the present pile

Visit our Christmas page for more ideas and links, and Merry Christmas!
